Election 2020 Update

It’s critically important to our business community that we elect leaders who care about issues important to us – especially as we address our COVID-19 recovery. Here at Traverse Connect, as a part of our investor and voter education, we are providing information through online candidate profiles for State Representative, Grand Traverse County Commission, TCAPS Board of Education, and NMC Board of Trustees. Working through our Traverse Connect Government Relations Committee, we asked candidates questions about issues that matter to our investors. We know these are issues important to you, because the questions came from you! Topics include COVID-19 recovery, local collaboration, transparency, the talent gap, and more.

In addition to generating questions for the online candidate profiles, the Traverse Connect Government Relations Committee also crafted questions for two Meet the Candidates Events. Traverse Connect served as the convener for these events with our guest moderator, the Record-Eagle. These forums provided investors and the community the opportunity to connect with State Representative and Grand Traverse County Commission candidates and learn about their stance on issues like FOIA, ethics, housing, child care, and more.

The Government Relations Committee also reviewed local and statewide ballot proposals that affect our businesses and the Traverse Connect Executive Committee signaled our support for several initiatives through formal endorsements. Local businesses are the cornerstone of our community and region – and we hope you will use your voice to vote this November.

ONLINE CANDIDATE PROFILES

It’s not always easy to decide which candidate best supports your view on business issues. That’s why Traverse Connect is here to help! Our Government Relations Committee asked a number of questions of the candidates running for State Representative for the 104th District, Grand Traverse County Commission, TCAPS Board of Education, and NMC Board of Trustees.

BALLOT PROPOSALS

Traverse Connect endorsed three ballot proposals based on their alignment with our current economic development priorities. Proposals were carefully vetted and voted on by the Traverse Connect Government Relations Committee, before being sent to the Executive Committee for consideration and approval.

Traverse Connect investors signaled support for the Traverse City Area Public Schools Operating Millage Proposal; Local Streets, Roads, Highways, and Bridges Repair and Improvement Millage Renewal Proposal; and Proposal 1 (Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund).

MEET THE CANDIDATES RECORDINGS

Traverse Connect hosted two Meet the Candidates events where State Representative and Grand Traverse County Commission candidates answered questions generated by our Government Relations Committee. The audience also had a chance to submit questions live, in addition to a question from our moderator, the Record-Eagle.
