TCYP Member Spotlight – Jamie Kirschner

What is your day job?
I am the owner and photographer of Crackerjack Photography Studio. I help families stop time and create memories to share for years to come. I love working with young families!

How long have you lived in the Grand Traverse area?
I have been in Traverse City for almost 2 years. I moved here from Oklahoma where I lived for 10 years. I grew up in Alpena, Michigan so this is much more like home!

What is your favorite thing about living/working in the Traverse City area?
I love all of the outdoor activities available and the WATER! I always dreamed of living on a lake and I feel like my dreams have come true!

What do you do for fun?
I am a yogi and given a chance to do something by myself that’s where I’ll be. I have a husband and 2 small children and we try to get outside as much as possible. We love fishing, swimming, skiing, biking and hiking.

How do you get involved in the community?
TCYP has been a great opportunity for me to meet people in our community as well as volunteering at my daughter’s school for events. I am always looking for ways to support other small businesses and love meeting new people.

What is your favorite local business (restaurant, shop, service, etc.) and why?
Press On Juice is one of my favorites, because everything they offer is packed with nutrition. I also have a son with an egg allergy and all of their food is vegan so I never have to worry about his safety when we eat there.

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
During my college summers I worked at a factory making valves. I actually loved it!

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I had my second baby at home with a midwife. It was a glorious experience and I highly recommend it!

What is something you learned in the last week?
While reading the Northern Express I learned a lot of things I didn’t know about the history of Christmas celebrations including the fact that there is some evidence of “Christmas” decorations dating as far back as thousands of years BC!

How can other TCYP members support you (personally or professionally)?
I still feel somewhat new to the area so I would love to meet more people and am most comfortable in one-on-one situations so reach out and let’s schedule a coffee date – even if it’s virtual! I love networking and learning how I can support other people and businesses in our community!
