TCYP Member Spotlight – Samantha Zawisza

What is your day job?

I’m a Sales Associate at Great Wolf Lodge, where I focus on the S.M.E.R.F.S. market—Social, Military, Education, Religious, Fraternal, and Sports groups.

How long have you lived in the Grand Traverse area?

I moved to Traverse City this past November.

What is your favorite aspect of living/working in the Traverse City area?

I love the natural beauty of Traverse City and the community here.

What do you do for fun?

In my free time, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, and trying out local restaurants.

How do you get involved in the community?

Since I’m new to the area, I’m still finding ways to get more involved. Through my work, I’ve been learning a lot about local schools and sports organizations and the positive impact they have on the community.

What is your favorite local business (restaurant, shop, service, etc.) and why?

One of my favorite local businesses is The Good Bowl. Not only do they serve amazing Vietnamese and Southeast Asian food, but they also give back to the community by donating $1 from every bowl to local charities.

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

I haven’t had many “weird” jobs, but one that surprised people was when I worked as a student assistant at my university’s Early Learning Center. I was studying Hospitality Management, while most of my coworkers were Education majors—people found it a bit unexpected, but I’ve always loved working with kids.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

I’m really into professional football—I’ve always been a huge fan of the Houston Texans, and more recently, the Arizona Cardinals, especially because of J.J. Watt. He’s been one of my favorite players for years, and I love following his career and impact both on and off the field.

What is something you learned in the last week?

I learned how to cook steak for the first time!

How can other TCYP members support you (personally or professionally)?

I joined TCYP to build professional relationships and learn more about community engagement. I’m not looking for anything specific—just hoping to grow as a professional and become more involved in the community.
