TCYP Member Spotlight – Mary Corning-Hyman

What is your day job?
By day, I’m an Administrative Assistant and Event Coordinator at French Manor Assisted Living Facility. I create daily activities that bring joy, connection, and purpose to our residents while working closely with families and the community. I love adding a creative twist to everything I do—because making people smile never gets old.

How long have you lived in the Grand Traverse area?
I’ve been in the Grand Traverse area since I was a baby—I was adopted from Guatemala and raised here, and I’m proud to call this community home.

What is your favorite aspect of living/working in the Traverse City area?
The opportunities are endless and the adventure never stops! Traverse City is constantly growing, and being part of that energy and evolution is something special.

What do you do for fun?
If I’m not working, you’ll probably find me rock hunting, spending time with family, golfing, hosting events, or exploring everything Northern Michigan has to offer.

How do you get involved in the community?
I stay active with TCYP events, collaborate with local businesses through my work, and am building my presence as a content creator. I also love volunteering whenever I can!

What is your favorite local business and why?
Sorellina is one of my favorites for an amazing dining experience, but when it comes to shopping, I’m all about exploring downtown—it’s impossible to pick just one spot!

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
Not weird—but my first job at Dairy Queen was iconic. I was always way too excited about making my own Blizzard creations!

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I’m a total social butterfly—but public speaking? That’s my biggest fear… and my biggest goal to conquer.

What is something you learned in the last week?
What you post and do can go way further than you think—so balancing authenticity and professionalism really matters.

How can other TCYP members support you?
I’m always looking to connect with others who are passionate about community and creativity. If you’re interested in collaborating, sharing ideas, or building something meaningful together—let’s connect and make it happen.
