I’ve lived up here for about 6 years now.
What is your favorite thing about living/working in the Traverse City area?
My favorite thing about living in Traverse City is that we have beautiful scenery no matter what season we are in. There are tons of activities and local events, and the food here is amazing!
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy going out on the boat, rock hunting, reading, trying new coffee shops, and traveling. I absolutely love to try and learn new things while meeting new people.
How do you get involved in the community?
I am a member of the TCYP Volunteering Committee. I’m grateful for not only the amazing connections I’ve made here, but to be a part of a committee that focuses on giving back to our community by planning and hosting monthly volunteer events.
I also get involved by attending local events, volunteering, and exploring the numerous nature preserves and parks that we have.
What is your favorite local business (restaurant, shop, service, etc.) and why?
My favorite local business in Traverse City would The Jolly Pumpkin Brewery & Distillery. Not only does this restaurant have a warm atmosphere with amazing food and beer, but all the employees who work here go above and beyond to for their customers. They are known for their unique sour beers, which aren’t for everyone. Its pretty cool that they are a small batch distillery and brewery that produce most of their spirits and beer on site.
What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
I can’t say that I’ve had a weird job. I enjoy all the jobs I’ve previously had.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
Growing up as a kid, I am grateful to say that I have been able to see the world. I have lived in Dubai, UAE and Katy, TX. I have visited places such as Oman, Yemen, India, Africa, United Kingdom, etc. In college, I studied abroad in Ireland and Costa Rica.
What is something you learned in the last week?
I learned that this Monday, Ford Motor Company announced that they have paused construction on the Electrical Vehicle (EV) battery plant they are building in Marshal Michigan.
How can other TCYP members support you (personally or professionally)?
Personally, I think the best way support me would be to introduce yourself. If you see me at a networking event or volunteering, stop by and say hello! I’d love to meet more TCYP members and new individuals.
Professionally, anyone can connect with me on LinkedIn. Feel free to send me a message and say hello 😊 https://www.linkedin.com/in/sailor-gaertner/
