What is your day job?
I am a mortgage loan officer at Honor Bank. I help people purchase a home or refinance their current mortgage. Sometimes this is a night and weekend job also.
How long have you lived in the Grand Traverse area?
I didn’t grow up in Michigan and I moved to Traverse City in 2015 but I did graduate from Elk Rapids High School north of TC so this is my second time living in northern Michigan.
What is your favorite thing about living and working in the area?
I like the small town community feel. I don’t think I could live in a big city. And of course all of the water, hiking trails, wineries, etc makes living here better.
What do you do for fun?
I like to workout whether it is weights, biking, or running. I am also currently in a kickball league and soccer league with Grand Traverse Social Sports.
How do you get involved in the community?
As a member of the TCYP volunteer committee I try to volunteer with different non-profits as much as I can.
What is your favorite local business and why?
I don’t have one favorite business but if you want good food or good drinks you can’t go wrong almost anywhere you go around here. I do enjoy hearing about business that give back to the community also whether its monetary or time it is nice to see when people think about others than just themselves.
What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
I have never had a weird job but I have had some interesting jobs such as a truck driver in the Army and a Logistics Specialist in the Navy. Both of those jobs allowed me to see many different countries and meet a lot of cool people from all walks of life. I still talk to many of them and meet up when we can since we all live all over the country.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I majored in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts at Central Michigan University. Was a hard field to get into so went back in the military and then got the business degree when I left the military.
What is something you learned in the last week?
Working in mortgages there is a lot to know so I am learning new stuff all the time. Not the most exciting answer but it is all I can think of.
How can other TCYP members support you personally and professionally?
Professionally, I get a lot of referrals with my job so if a fellow YP needs to purchase a home or refinance their current home or knows anyone that does then they can feel free to reach out to me. And personally, I enjoy meeting new people so say hello and most people I have met since I moved here are from a YP event.
