TCYP Member Spotlight – Matt Horan

What is your day job?

On-Premise Spirits Sales Consultant for Southern Glazers Wine and Spirits

How long have you lived in the Grand Traverse area?

About 4 and 1/2 years

What is your favorite thing about living/working in the Traverse City area?

Soooo many things. The community, the outdoor activities and natural beauty, the waterways and lakes, and the fantastic hospitality destinations.

What do you do for fun?

I love to get outdoors and hike the trails or beaches year round with my pup, golf, boat, cook, attend shows, stay active, or enjoy a meal or beverage at many local restaurants, wineries, and breweries with friends.

How do you get involved in the community?

Through TCYP I have had the opportunity to participate in several volunteer activities and through work I’ve been able to help operators put on special event nights, build cocktail lists, host dinners, and this year even work with the National Cherry Festival to help execute beverage service and several offsite events!

What is your favorite local business (restaurant, shop, service, etc.) and why?

I can’t pick just one in the restaurant field as I have the privilege to work with many of our local operators on a day to day business through work and all offer something fun and unique that set themselves apart. Outside of that industry, I’ve gotten to know the team at Forward Inking and all they do to support local businesses through partnerships and greatly admire what they’ve built!

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

I worked in late high school at a theme park featuring go-carts, laser tag, arcade, mini-golf, and other attractions.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

I’m a massive fan of musical theater and as a kid I did a lot of acting in community and professional theater productions in the Grand Rapids area.

What is something you learned in the last week?

Lemons float, but limes sink! After 2 decades in alcohol beverage service and sales and handling many lemons and limes..I just learned that this week.

How can other TCYP members support you (personally or professionally)?

So many already have by helping build connections and friendships in the area and I’m thankful for that, but I am always trying to grow my personal and professional network and as a member of the TCYP Programming Committee, we always love to see familiar faces and new faces at our networking events to please continue to come support us and invite others to do so as well!
