TCYP Member Spotlight – Courtney Doyle

What is your day job?

Hi! I’m the Communications and Marketing Specialist for Cherryland Electric Cooperative.

How long have you lived in the Grand Traverse area?

My husband, son, and I moved to Traverse City from Cadillac in January, 2022 and we LOVE it!

What is your favorite thing about living/working in the Traverse City area?

I love that Traverse City offers the excitement of a larger city with the community of a small town. We love always having options to go out and do something new whether it’s a new restaurant, fun event, or new trail to explore.

What do you do for fun?

Exploring the area with my husband and 1 year old are what we do most. We love spending time out on the water, walking the Boardman Loop Trail, and meandering downtown.

How do you get involved in the community?

I get to help plan TCYP Happy Hours and other fun events as the chair of the TCYP Programming Committee (yay TCYP!). I’m LOVING my time as a member of the current Leadership Grand Traverse cohort, and I get to work closely with local non-profits on behalf of the Cherryland Cares charitable fund! I’m always on the hunt for new, meaningful ways to get involved!

What is your favorite local business (restaurant, shop, service, etc.) and why?

Woof — this is hard. I’m a sucker for anything on the shelves at Sweet Pea. They’re always so kind and helpful! I grew up coming to TC for lunch dates with my mom at Amical and Poppycocks, so both of those spots hold a special place in my heart too!

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

I worked at the theme parks in Walt Disney World as part of the Disney College Program and had SO much fun! Definitely the most unique job I’ve had.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

I lived in Germany for my junior year of high school as a foreign exchange student! It changed my life and made me into the person I am today.

What is something you learned in the last week?

I was looking into family ancestry, and we have a lot of Scottish heritage and I found out Scotland’s national animal is a unicorn. A UNICORN?! ARE YOU KIDDING?! THAT’S AMAZING!

How can other TCYP members support you (personally or professionally)?

Join the programming committee! We’re always looking to grow our team! Other than that, just introduce yourself — we’re just putting roots down in Traverse City and would love to get to know more people!
