Local manufacturer Grand Traverse Industries (GTI) recently responded to the need for medical personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers.
On Monday, March 23, GTI President and CEO Steve Perdue attended a meeting with Munson Healthcare’s Northern Michigan Supply Alliance to discuss the shortage of PPE materials in Grand Traverse County. Steve suggested that his team could manufacture protective gowns with plastic film. By Thursday, March 26, GTI provided a prototype to Munson Healthcare, pending approval. An order for 500 gowns was placed the next day. In partnership with Plascon, GTI staff went to work on converting the film provided by Plascon into a sleeved gown and delivered the first supply of gowns on Tuesday.
After this initial delivery, Munson Healthcare placed an order for 5,000 more gowns.
Congratulations to the teams at GTI and Plascon for responding to the community need with creativity and ingenuity.
